The AlterWare Launcher or our clients may be falsely flagged as Malware by your Antivirus Software. This happens because AVs work with pattern matching meaning if a certain pattern of data in our software matches the pattern in a piece of Malware the AV will flag our Software as Malware.
If you aren’t convinced by this feel free to check out our GitHub repo, self-hosted Gitea and the official IW4x repo. Most of our code is open source.
Excluding AlterWare mods from scanning
To avoid your AV deleting AlterWare-related files or preventing the Launcher from working exclude the Entire game folder from scanning. The steps below show the Process for Windows Defender, if you’re not using Defender simply Google “MyAvSoftware exclude directory from scanning”.
- Open your start menu and search for “Windows Security” then open it.
- Navigate to “Virus & threat protection”.
- Below “Virus & threat protection settings” click “Manage settings”.
- Scroll down to “Exclusions” and click “Add or remove exclusions”.
- Click “Add an exclusion” and select “Folder” from the dropdown Menu.
- Type
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
(find your game files and fill in the field with the full path) into the file path Bar on top of the Windows Explorer window then hit Enter. - Hit “Select Folder” at the bottom right of the Windows Explorer window.
You can repeat the steps above for the Modern Warfare 3 (2011), Ghosts and Advanced Warfare folders.
