What Does This Error Mean?
If you encounter the following error message:
[Error] Downloaded file hash does not match remote!
It’s important to understand what’s happening and why it’s not necessarily a problem.
Explanation
AlterWare services are powered by Cloudflare. This setup allows us to maintain a cost-efficient central server with limited bandwidth, while leveraging Cloudflare’s robust caching capabilities. This ensures users can download client files at high speeds, provided the files are cached at a Cloudflare datacenter near their location.
The error occurs when files on our internal server are updated, but Cloudflare hasn’t yet fully mirrored the changes across its cache network.
What Should You Do?
- Be patient. This issue is temporary and resolves itself as Cloudflare updates its cache.
- If prompted by the AW launcher, you can safely type ‘No’ to continue. In most cases, you won’t encounter any issues with our clients.
Important Notes
- No, Cloudflare is not broken.
- No, our servers are not broken.
- This is a normal part of how caching works.
