How to update and launch your game

To keep your game updated, simply run the AlterWare Launcher. This is the recommended method for starting the game, as it ensures you always have the latest updates.

Launching directly

For IW4x, you can bypass having to interact with the launcher by using shortcuts:

  • Use launch-iw4x for multiplayer.
  • Use launch-iw4x-sp for single-player.

Both files are located in your game directory.

Creating a shortcut to automatically launch a specific client

You can create a shortcut to the launcher that automatically starts a specific client:

  1. Create a shortcut for alterware-launcher.exe.
  2. Right-click the shortcut and select Properties.
  3. In the Target field, add the client name after the path, e.g.,
    "<pathtomw2>\alterware-launcher.exe" iw4x.

This allows you to launch directly into the desired client with a single click.
