T7x Client v0.0.2 Update

We’re excited to announce the release of the T7x Client v0.0.2 update.

As you may remember, the T7x Client was discontinued in late December 2023 following a request from momo5502, asking us to cease public support for the client. In line with this request, we allowed users to continue using their preferred forks, such as Ezz BOIII, without our involvement and without expecting further updates.

Throughout 2024, we honoured this agreement. However, significant developments in the community, including the release of the T7 Patch source code and the public disclosure of numerous client and server crash exploits, forced us to make a decision. These exploits, which had rendered dedicated servers nearly unplayable, left us with a difficult choice: allow the community reliant on BOIII forks to collapse or step in to address these critical stability issues. While some forks have attempted to mitigate these crashes, the closed-source nature of certain BOIII components and the removal of the T7x source code from GitHub meant only AlterWare possessed the expertise required to deliver effective fixes. We’ve addressed all major documented exploits from the T7 Patch source code, as well as previously undiscovered vulnerabilities in dedicated servers.

Although we’ve implemented these fixes, we remain committed to maintaining our good relationship with momo5502. We continue to avoid offering official support or creating expectations for new features or game bug fixes (e.g., Zombies crashes). Addressing these areas would require Momo’s return to Call of Duty development or explicit consent to build upon his earlier projects.

Why Choose T7x?

The T7x Client now uses official Steam servers and Demonware (DW) online services to ensure compliance with the End User License Agreement (EULA). This approach guarantees that only legitimate game copies are compatible with our client. Unlike other forks, T7x fixes critical vulnerabilities while steering clear of piracy, aligning closely with the BO3 Mod Tools EULA.

If this decision does not meet your preferences, we recommend using the Steam version of the game with the T7 Patch.

Changelog

Here’s what’s new in v0.0.2:

  • Fixed the “restart loop of doom” on dedicated servers by reworking minidump generation.
  • Patched security vulnerabilities documented in the T7 Patch source code, including client-to-client crashes in private matches.
  • Addressed additional server crash vulnerabilities discovered internally.
  • Restored bots.txt support.
  • Implemented official Steam and DW servers for compliance and stability.

Clients now use the XUID provided by Steam as a user identifier.
All T7x users are tied to a Steam account, ensuring that only legitimate game owners can access the client. This also allows for the permanent banning of cheaters, adding an additional layer of accountability and entry barrier to using T7x.

Legal Context

By using official servers and limiting compatibility to legitimate game copies, T7x minimizes legal risks. While Activision reserves the right to take action against perceived threats to their intellectual property, we’ve taken every possible step to operate within their established guidelines (BO3 Mod Tools EULA).

Thank you for your continued support. We hope this update improves your gameplay experience and keeps the T7x community thriving.

Will using T7x get me VAC banned from the official Steam servers (or other internal Black Ops 3 servers)?

No, it will not. The game has been extensively studied by the community over the years, and the consensus is that VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) is entirely absent from Black Ops 3. Additionally, Treyarch has not implemented any other anti-cheat measures capable of banning users from their servers.

This conclusion is supported by years of evidence. Historically, hackers have operated freely on the Steam version of Black Ops 3, even before public pressure and a gaming journalist’s inquiry prompted Treyarch to address the situation. While they fixed remote code execution (RCE) exploits, the fundamental behaviour of the game remained unchanged.

As a result, using T7x will not lead to a ban from official servers.
