1. VCRUNTIME140.dll not found
You are missing VC++ (2015) Redistributables. These can be downloaded directly from Microsoft:
You might need to restart your PC after installing the Redists.
2. Game not found
The AlterWare Launcher doesn’t require you to select install paths or choose which game to launch at startup. Because of this, it must be placed inside the game’s directory.
To find the game’s directory you can right-click the game in Steam → Manage → Browse local files.
Place alterware-launcher.exe in that directory and run it.
You can use right-click → Send to → Desktop to create a Shortcut.
3. “No such host is known.” or “An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions.”
The AlterWare launcher requires an active Internet connection to work.
- If you are trying to play offline:
- Launch the mod executable directly (ex. iw6-mod.exe)
- If you have an active internet connection:
- Make sure alterware-launcher.exe is not blocked by the firewall or your anti-virus software.
- Make sure you are able to access master.alterware.dev in your Browser
- If you are able to access it, you should see “403 Forbidden”
- If you aren’t able to access this page, your DNS server may be having issues
3. “No game specified/found.”
You didn’t follow the installation guide! You must follow the instructions here:
How to install the AlterWare launcher
You should not run the launcher from your Downloads or Desktop folder.
That said, the launcher is designed to be forgiving, since many users skip steps or don’t follow the guide properly.
Right now, the launcher is asking you to enter the numeric ID displayed on your screen.
Please read carefully and enter the ID for the game you want to install (e.g., MW2: 10180).
