PREFACE
IW5-Mod is a modded client mainly focused on Singleplayer/COOP. You can still play bot warfare in “Private Match” on multiplayer and rank up. Please note that no dedicated servers are available for play, and matchmaking is not implemented. If you wish to play with other players, we recommend visiting Plutonium. It is not our intention to compete with Plutonium. Almost all of AlterWare staff members are also Plutonium staff members.

INSTALLING THE BASE GAME
As stated previously, in many other posts, you MUST buy the game on Steam. You can access the Store page with this link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/115300/Call_of_Duty_Modern_Warfare_3_2011
You should now be able to install MW3 (Campaign/Spec Ops) and Multiplayer.
After you have purchased the game, you will also have access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Dedicated Server on Steam.
The Dedicated Server files are also needed for technical reasons. Please keep reading to learn how to download them from Steam.
- INSTALL THE DEDICATED SERVER FILES
Finding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Dedicated Server on Steam
- Find the game in your Steam library, go to
LIBRARYand from the dropdown menu selectTOOLS
- Locate
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Dedicated Server, select it and then click the cog icon thenProperties
- Navigate to the
LANGUAGEtab and ensure the language is set toEnglish. This is very important as the Steam MW3 Dedicated Server can not install properly for other languages. Failing to do so will result in missing files and errors later on.
- Select
INSTALLthenNextthenFinish.
- PLACE THE LAUNCHER IN THE GAME DIR
You will need to download the AlterWare launcher, please follow the instructions from this post. In short, you must place the launcher where you downloaded yourCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3files.
- RUN THE LAUNCHER
Once you have completed the step above you are set. Double-click the launcher.
Make sure to follow the instructions in the console window.
Once the update process is done, it should automatically open the AlterWare client for the current game. After this, IW5-Mod should be installed.
WINDOWS
You may need to run Modern Warfare 3 - Multiplayer/Singleplayer at least once on Steam to make sure game dependencies like DirectX and the correct C++ Redistributables are installed on your system. If you don’t do that, you may need to install those manually and without them, IW5-Mod will not work!
You can attempt to use these links to install the dependencies manually, if Microsoft breaks them you should Google them and download them from an official Microsoft website.
